Picture Hanging Systems

Is there a difference between picture rails and gallery rails?
No. The term “picture rail” has simply become more common. Originally, picture rails were developed for galleries to be able to hang different picture frames more easily and quickly—hence the name "gallery rails."
Additionally, picture rails are often called picture moulding. However, in the professional field, this term refers to the mouldings from which picture frames, or more precisely, picture frame profiles are made. Furthermore, the term picture moulding or gallery moulding is often used for the increasingly popular wall ledges on which picture frames can be placed. To differentiate, we offer these “picture mouldings” under the name Designboard.

Picture Rail Wall Mounting

Can the holes for the picture rails be measured from the ceiling?
You should always align the holes for the picture rails using a spirit level or, if available, a laser device, and not measure from the ceiling. Ceilings are often not level, so the holes for the picture rails would end up at different heights.
Is it recommended to mount the picture rail flush under the ceiling?
There should be a small gap between the ceiling and the picture rail for two reasons. First, most ceilings are not completely straight, which could cause the rails to be mounted crookedly.
Also, you need to allow enough room for the drill—otherwise, the drill chuck could damage the ceiling when drilling the dowel holes.

Picture Rail Ceiling Mounting

Can the Soft-Rail picture rail system also be mounted under the ceiling?
Yes. For this, you only need the accessory part ceiling clamp in the required quantity. Picture rail ceiling clamp
How many ceiling clamps should be used when mounting picture rails to the ceiling?
Ceiling clamps should be mounted every 50 cm along a picture rail.

Picture Rails Made of Wood or Aluminium

Are there differences between an aluminium picture rail and a wooden picture rail?
The main difference is in appearance. Aluminium picture rails come in silver and white, while the natural color of wooden rails gives the room a warmer touch.

Another important difference is the way the hanging cables are attached to the rails. With wooden picture rails, you need an additional gallery hook. The cable suspension on the aluminium rails can be inserted directly into the rail and does not necessarily require an extra hook if disk gliders are used for hanging.
